A 3,000-year-old city has been uncovered in the sands of Egypt, and is being considered by archaeologists as one of the most important finds since the tomb of King Tutankhamun. The "lost golden city" was discovered near Luxor, Egyptologist Zahi Hawass announced on April 8, 2021.
Known as Aten, it is the largest ancient city ever uncovered in Egypt, and "founded by one of the greatest rulers of Egypt, King Amenhotep III, the ninth king of the 18th dynasty who ruled Egypt from 1391 till 1353 B.C.," Hawass said.
